At the end of the 2022 football culture season, the community of football film festivals announces a new addition: the "Wal Goch Festival" in Wrexham in the north of Wales.

11mm will present ten short football films there. Among them are 11mm shortkicks winners such as "Leo" (Iran) "I love hooligans" (Netherlands) or "Domingo" (Mexico), as well as the Australian production "Bloody Footy", which was one of the first short films ever to run in the 11mm programme in 2005. All the films in the programme come from countries participating in the World Cup in Qatar this winter. A jury assembled by the "Wal Goch Festival" will select the unofficial first "World Champion of Football Short Films" from the programme.

At the three-day "Wal Goch Festival" from 11 to 13 November, there will be film premieres, readings and music concerts as well as discussions with many big names from the world of football. Among others, the hosts are expecting Liverpool legend Ian Rush and Everton hero Neville Southall, who will present a new film about his journey from star footballer to social activist.

"With many fans choosing not to travel to Qatar for the World Cup this year, whether for financial reasons or more importantly because they are uncomfortable, we want our festival to be a place where fans can come and soak up a World Cup atmosphere of their own," says festival director Dave Evans.
