Program
The history of 11MM also includes various trips to major football events - the festival has been "on tour" at home and abroad for the past 18 years. On the occasion of EURO 2012, we presented our film festival in Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine, as part of the cultural supporting program. For us this was an unforgettable stay. We enjoyed not only the great hospitality, the wonderful audience talks in the cinema, the 2:1 of the German team in the preliminary round match against the Netherlands and especially, as part of a colorful team, a friendly match against the Ukrainian national team of authors. Afterwards we talked about (football) culture in both countries and the common European future. In the best of moods and full of hope. Now the city is in ruins, it is so bitter.
In the face of war, the term "home" takes on a special meaning. This year's 11MM issue is primarily about "football as home". Linked to the themes of identity, migration and kicking in the provinces. "The standing area at the SV Freistadt canteen is a part of my home. Beer, sausage and whiners integral part. And this place in my homeland can always be sure of my affection, despite many a disappointment," speaks Wolfgang Steininger, member of this year's Grand Jury and football-mad founder of the enchanting "Heimatfilmfestival" in Upper Austria.
Kaduregel-Shefel: celebrating diversity through football
‘Kaduregel-Shefel’ (translated as ‘low’ football) started years ago, when two friends - Gad Salner and Vadim Tarasov - started a journey to seek the places that the passion for true football still exists, whether it is in the Arab villages of the north, or the forgotten dusty Jewish neighbourhoods of the south of Israel.
‘Kaduregel-Shefel’ focus less on the pitch action itself, but more on the culture and atmosphere that surrounds it, and the way they relate to native football.
Many Cultures, One Ball
11mm New national and international releases
Main target of 11mm is to present our public the most important new releases of both, national and international, in the field of football feature films and documentaries. Our journey has never been that far and manifold. The travellers are going to meet players and clubs all over the world as well as war and dictatorship and also topics like human dignity and tolerance. Two aspects are always taking centre: "many cultures, one ball".
The 11 mm festival opens on Thursday, 15. October 2020 with the German documentary "Men of Hope". The filmmakers Till Derenbach and Andreas Fröhlich accompany the afghan football team and their German-Croatian coach Petar Šegrt on their way through qualification for the Asia Cup 2019. The filmmakers discovered by chance the story of the "most dangerous football coach jobs in the world" in a newspaper article.
