Ronny and Naldo as Jurors

Tuesday, 01 April 2014
Brazilian football professionals Ronny (Hertha Berlin ) and Naldo (Wolfsburg) showed they know a thing or two about cinema at the 11mm shortkicks gala. In front of a sell-out crowd in Kino Babylon, they and the other members of the international jury awarded the prize for the top short film to “I Love Hooligans” by Jan-Dirk Bouw from the Netherlands. The animated documentary about a homosexual football hooligan beat out competition from Europe, South America and the Middle East.

The gala was opened by the spine-tingling, hushed tones of Austrian singer Anna F. The 28-year-old musician and Rapid Vienna supporter was also part of the jury – together with cultural manager Katja Lucker, interfilm festival director Heinz Hermanns and journalist Jens Balzer (Berliner Zeitung).

After the official event, the filmmakers, jurors and audience members enjoyed some delicious beverages provided by WEINELF – the German wine industry’s football team – and curry sausages from Curry36. The festivities went on well beyond midnight. The 11mm shortkicks gala was presented by Volkswagen.

The six-day 11mm festival concludes on Tuesday April 1. At 9:45 PM, the winner of the Golden 11for the best football film will be announced. The winner is decided by audience vote, and the winning film will be re-screened at 10PM.
