On Thursday, March19 the 11mm Football Film Festivals kicks off with “Messi (The Movie),” an extraordinary documentary about Lionel “Leo” Andrés Messi Cuccittini, the man who has been described as the “most complete” football player in the world. It was directed by star Spanish filmmaker Alex de la Iglesia (“Perdita Durango”), and the script was written by Jorge Valdano, winner of the 1986 World Cup and one of the great intellectuals of Argentinian football. Expected at the opening ceremony is former German national defender and assistant coach of the German Under-18s, Arne Friedrich, who played against Messi at the 2010 World Cup. In fact Friedrich scored the only goal of his national career in Germany’s 4-0 win over the Gauchos and their coach Diego Maradona. The evening will be hosted by Sky Sports presenter Kai Dittmann. Also in attendance will be nearly the entire board of the German football association (DFB) Cultural Foundation and his Excellence Daniel Polski, Argentinian Ambassador to Germany. Additionally the opening ceremony will include well-known guests from the worlds of film and football as well as cinema and sports enthusiasts from around the world.
