Naldo to present award

Sunday, 22 March 2015

Since last Thursday, football fans have been enthusiastically taking in the extensive program of sports and cinema at the Kino Babylon movie theater on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz square in central Berlin. Some 70 works from 16 different countries are being featured at the world’s leading football film festival.

Organizers are once again expecting a number of prominent guests at Monday’s short-feature competition, the “Shortkicks Gala.” The gala is the traditional high point of the festival, and this year’s nine competitors were selected from a group of more than 40 applicants.

The 2015 Shortkicks Gala jury will decide the winner. This year’s members include legendary Union Berlin and Cottbus midfielder Torsten Mattuschka, Wolfsburg defender Marcel Schäfer, film director Aljoscha Pause, Bundesliga referee Knut Kircher, former German women’s national goalkeeper Katja Kraus, the discoverer of Germany’s oldest football film Thomas Staisch and a player from the German capital’s first-division club Hertha Berlin. Supporting the jurors will be actress Marleen Lohse and her band Unserseins, who will perform live.

Monday will also see the awarding of the coveted “Golden 11” prize for the audience favorite. The award will be presented by Wolfsburg and former Brazil national defender Naldo, who’s a big fan of the festival.

The Shortkicks Gala in general is presented by Volkswagen.
