11mm 2017 is just around the corner

There are only 18 days left until the Grand Opening of the 14th 11mm International Football Film Festival in Berlin.

The opening film comes from Iceland: the documentary “Like a Volcano: The Rise of Icelandic Football”, by filmmaker Saevar Gudmunsson, discovers the secret to the success of the surprise star at last year’s European Championships in France.

Hertha fans also have a German premiere to look forward to. Filmmaker Angel Chow-Toun got to know star striker Salomon Kalou for her documentary “Salomon Kalou – L’Éléphant chéri”, which offers rare insights into his astonishing career. At the pre-festival press conference, Kalou himself offered a few words on the film: “It was always important to me that we can only reach our goals together, and I hope that the film can also convey this message to the guests at the festival”.

Two German productions will also have their world premieres at this year’s festival. In André Schaefer’s “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, actor Joachim Król goes in search of the story of the song, from its beginnings in 1909, to its excursion on Broadway, and finally to its fame as the passionate soundtrack to great football grounds around the world. In “Refugee 11” by Antje Boehmert and Jean Boué, we meet amateur and professional footballers who fled their homelands. Hertha-BSC Captain Vedad Ibisevic, Union Berlin’s Eroll Zejnullahu, Schalke legend Gerald Asamoah, and former German national player Fatmire Alushi all feature.
